A history of the big idea of atheism

More of the world is religious than atheist, yet in the West atheism is normalised and on the increase. Just as many religions have an identifiable point of origin, so too does atheism as it has developed in the West. This article presents a potted history of Western atheistic thinking (‘Western’ because it’s not, for example, about the unimportance of God questions in Buddhist thought). Read on for suggestions of ways to teach the big ideas underlying the trend.
