Research update

This research update firstly discusses the work of John Ruskin. In particular, his belief that education should
involve teaching children to see, and also how he wrestled with his religious beliefs throughout his life. This truly
highlights how both doubt and the belief that Christianity should engage with the issues of the day were a central
part of this Victorian man’s life. The second piece details work that explores how Israel’s scriptures are re-used
and interpreted in early Jewish and early Christian literature. This exploration helps deepen an understanding
of these texts and also shows that scriptural interpretation has always been diverse and contextual.
