Step up, stand up and speak up!

Following a 2006 primary teacher RE conference in Wheathampstead, Hertfordshire, Lat Blaylock asked if I was ‘interested in joining the PCfRE Exec’, as it was then called. So I arrived at the first residential meeting, excited and anxious at the prospect of sitting with all those RE bigwigs (as I saw them) discussing RE at a national level, planning action and policy. I was the newbie and wondering what on Earth I could contribute to the Exec as an infant school teacher! The welcome was great, and my confidence grew. A couple of years later I joined the Steering Group, then took on the role of Local Groups Officer and, in 2012, of Primary Vice-Chair.
